Gentle Foaming Cleanser by Nivea

I love foam cleansers over cream cleansers. I don't know what it is, maybe it's that foam cleaners are more gentle? I really like this gentle foam cleanser by Nivea. It's made for dry skin and contains natural almond oil to hydrate. Along with the smoothing facial scrub in this post, the facial cleanser has become something I repurchase and use daily.

Invigorating Dry Shampoo by Dove

I was actually disappointed with this dry shampoo by Dove. Last year I spent four days in the hospital and really needed something to clean my hair. I thought dry shampoo would be great since couldn't move around to shower. I also have oily hair and need to shampoo everyday or it becomes shiny and weighed down (gross). I was sad to find the dry shampoo did nothing for the three days of oil buildup I had in my hair during that period. It smells great but other than that it was not a hit for me. My sister on the other hand likes it, so it may depend on your hair type.

Big Sexy Hair Spray and Play Hair Spray by Sexy Hair

This hairspray is amazing! A volumizing hairspray, it holds your styled do without that crunchy chunky feel some sprays leave. It's also in an aerosol can, so while it might not be the best for the environment, it makes it easy to apply. I have a lot of flyaway hair when I tie my hair up. I use this hair spray on partially dry hair to hold those flyaways in place. It's great! I plan on repurchasing this product when it runs out.

Coconut Water and Mimosa Flower Shampoo by Love Beauty and Planet

I was influenced into trying this shampoo because the vegans and vegetarians of Facebook and Instagram kept posting pictures and talking about it. I purchased the coconut water and mimosa flower volume and bounty shampoo because clear coloured vs. creamy shampoos seem to work with my hair better. According to the bottle it is for body and strength for fine hair. Owned by Unilever, this brand is definitely marketed towards people conscious about their environmental footprint, chemicals in products, and animal welfare. The bottles the shampoo is packaged in are made from 100% recycled plastic (would be better without plastic, but this is better than nothing). Made with naturally organic coconut oil to hydrate, the shampoo also smells amazing. 100% vegan, made with plant-based cleansers, and not tested on animals. The shampoo does not contain silicones, parabens or dyes.

Smoothing Facial Scrub by Live Clean (Fresh Face)

I stumbled upon this face exfoliating scrub completely by accident. I was shopping for a face wash that also acted as an exfoliate and thought that's what this was - but it's not!

The Live Clean Facial Scrub is applied after cleaning your skin. It contains ground corn cob which removes dead skins cells and leaves your face smooth. While I was surprised it's not both a cleanser and exfoliate, this is actually kind of genius. Exfoliates can be rough on the face if used to much and this product allows you to add it to your routine as needed. As with all Live Clean products, it is also free of harmful chemicals such as DEA, phosphate, petroleum, silicone, parabens, phthalate, SLS/sulfates and dyes. The facial scrub is 100% vegan, in packages that can be recycled, not tested on animals and naturally derived. It's also very soothing to the skin with ingredients such as lavender, cucumber, chamomile, milk thistle, mallow, aloe and buckthorn.

This product is definitely part of my facial routine arsenal now, thanks to a good moment of luck.

I also want to mention that since buying many of the products in this series, I have become more knowledgeable about the impact that plastic has on our planet. It doesn't biodegrade. It is polluting our oceans and our landfills can't keep up. So moving forward, I plan on researching eco friendly brands that are refillable and packaged in biodegradable materials.

Have you found any eco friendly beauty products that are affordable and work well? Let me know in the comments below! Looking for recommendations.

  1. Great list! I’ll have to be sure to check out some of these! Thanks for sharing!

  2. If you ever have a chance to try the shampoo, conditioner and body wash by Plain Products I would be interesred in your view of them. When I run out of all products, I'm going to try this.

    1. It sounds interesting, though I don't know if I like all the shipping back and forth to the US. Shipping means packaging each time and transportation is bad for the environment. Would be nice if there were refill stations in stores in Canada.
